BEING A PARENT IS HARD WORK!

In the first few years, children learn more and at a faster pace than at any other time in life. You help shape your child's future through the kinds of experiences you provide. Your baby was born to learn, and as a parent, you are your child's first and most important teacher.

Ho’āla Nā Pua and Parents as Teachers is here to help you!

PROGRAM GOALS

Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices.

Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues.

Prevent child abuse and neglect.

Increase children's school readiness and school success

VISION

All children will learn, grow and develop to realize their full potential.

MISSION

To provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.

Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a parent education and family support serving families through the Ho’āla Nā Pua Parent and Child Interaction Program in Ko’olauLoa.

Parents are supported by nationally-certified parent educators, trained to translate scientific information on early brain development into specific when, what, how and why advice for families.

CORE VALUES

The early years of a child's life are critical for optimal development and provide the foundation for success in school and in life. Parents are their children's first and most influential teachers.

Established and emerging research should be the foundation of parent education and family support curricula, training, materials and services.

All young children and their families deserve the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of any demographic, geographic or economic considerations.

An understanding and appreciation of the history and traditions of diverse cultures is essential in serving families.

As a Ho’āla Nā Pua PAT family, you receive:

Personal visits -- during which your ’Ohana Educator will share age-appropriate child development and parenting information, help you learn to observe your child, and address your parenting concerns.

Parent group meetings -- which are opportunities to share information about parenting issues and child development and community-based issues.

Screenings -- to assess your child's overall development as well as health, hearing and vision.

Resource network -- that links your family to other community services and organizations.
